It’s been a bit since I’ve sent out a newsletter so in this one I’m trying to wrap up some exciting news, plus point out some ways that you can help us help the Bangor Humane Society and the Eastern Area Agency on Aging Furry Friends Food Bank; two of our favorite pet related charities. In This Issue
Help Select Our Photo Contest Grand Prize WinnerThank you to all who participated in this year’s photo contest. Once again the judges had a difficult time selecting our finalists. Entries were submitted in four categories: Dogs & Puppies (any photo of dog(s) of any age), Cats & Kittens (any photo of cat(s) of any age), Pet Friends (a pet interacting with another pet or pet(s)). The finalists have been accepted and are now available for voting on our website until the end of the day on September 10th. The grand prize winner will be used on the front of the calendar. Additionally, this winner will receive a photo session with Debra Bell of Bell Imaging and Design ($125 value) and a Green Acres Kennel gift bag worth over $150. So far Green Acres has 382 votes for the best photo in our 2012 Calendar contest. Please vote and let us know which photo you like best. http://bit.ly/NUh9bv Photo Contest Honorable MentionsWe also had several photos that the judges felt were exceptional and needed to be recognized as honorable mentions. Cats on Tour is coming! No, not Cats the musical but wonderful, adoptable felines from the Bangor Humane Society. Each week their newly decorated van will travel to a different business location in the area in hopes to find a match for some of the amazing cats up for adoption. Each business will offer a gift incentive as a thank you to those who choose adoption. The Bangor Humane Society is one of 50 animal rescue organizations nationwide competing in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge event, which begin August 1, 2012 and ends October 31, 2012. The Challenge aims to get more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before. Not only are we competing to “save more lives,” but also for a chance at the grand prize of $100,000 from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®). The Bangor Humane Society’s goal during the event is to adopt out a minimum of 1200 animals during the three month competition. In an effort to boost adoption numbers, all adult cats 7 months and older are fee waived now through October 31. (Adult dogs are 50% off). All pets are spayed/neutered, vet checked and behavior evaluated to ensure the best match possible. In addition to reducing adoption fees, BHS is going mobile! “We hope to generate some great momentum and enthusiasm in the community around pet adoption,” says Stacey Coventry, PR Manager for BHS. “Our goal is to make pet adoption more accessible while partnering with different local organizations in support of our mission. Every match made is a life saved. We invite people to check out our “Cats on Tour” and to tell their friends.” Cats on Tour will be here at Green Acres Kennel Shop on Friday, September 28th from Noon to 4PM. Each cat adopted here that day will go home with a free cat toy and four cans of b.f.f. cat food, compliments of Green Acres. Holiday Pet Portraits with Debra Bell Sunday, September 30th

This is the main fundraising event for the Bangor Humane Society and is crucial for the many homeless pets in our region. The Green Acres staff has formed a team to walk in Paws, but because several of us have to work in the store or kennel or teach training classes that day we need help filling out our team. We want a BIG presence so we are inviting you to join us as a member of the Green Acres Click! team. You can sign-up on line and even solicit donations from friends and family online through the BHS system. To join our team just click here: The walk begins at the public parking lot on the Bangor Waterfront and continues around the waterfront. Businesses We Use and RecommendGreen Acres, as well as Paula and I personally, use the products and services of a number of area businesses. Like Green Acres most of them are small and locally owned. Many, but not all are members of the Paul Bunyan Chapter of Business Networks International (http://www.bni.com/) an organization where we all help each other grow our businesses. This space in our newsletter will be used to recognize some of those businesses and their products.
