|Meet Our Professional Pet Stylists|
A good groomer will have the eye of an artist, the hands of a skilled craftsman, the knowledge of a pet care professional, and the patience of a saint. Grooming ability comes from a natural love of animals, a solid education, and lots of experience.
Peggy Sockalexis knew she wanted to become a professional groomer after unsuccessfully attempting to groom the family dog as a pre-teen. Peggy was so passionate about entering the profession that she gave up her summer vacation to attend grooming school between her junior and senior year in high school. She received her grooming certificate in 1993 and has worked as a groomer in Portland, Bangor and Westerly, Rhode Island. Peggy remains as passionate about pets and the profession today as at the start of her career. With 23-plus years of grooming experience, Peggy is a valued asset to the Green Acres Kennel Shop team.
As part of the team, Peggy recognizes that not all pets enjoy being groomed. She recommends developing a relationship in small doses to make the process fun for pet and groomer. Also, if a senior pet cannot be comfortably groomed in one session, she recommends multiple sessions for optimal results.
Outside of work, Peggy enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering at animal shelters. She and her son currently share their home with two Chihuahuas, Romeo and Loki, and two goldfish, James and Aleesha.
