Boarding

People travel and often go places where pets are not allowed. Traveling with a pet has the risks of the pet getting scared and running off, or becoming sick. Changes are usually very stressful to a pet, especially cats, and traveling is a constantly changing situation. Boarding facilities provide a safe, caring environment with a staff trained to care for your pet and monitor their health while keeping them secure. A quality boarding facility gives a pet's guardian peace of mind, knowing that their pets are safe and comfortable.

Training

Green Acres boasts a training staff that includes six Certified Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT-KA), who collectively possess over sixty-five years of combined training experience. To be eligible for certification as a CPDT-KA, trainers must accumulate 300 hours of instructional experience, submit a written reference from a veterinarian, colleague, and training student, and pass a written exam. The exam content covers the science of training, canine behavior and health, and elements of successful human/canine instruction.

Green Acres' training team is led by Don Hanson, past President of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the world's largest dog training and education organization. All of Green Acres' training staff, both lead and assistant instructors, are members of the APDT and as such are committed to continuing their own education within the field of dog training. Each of our introductory training classes has no more than five students and is co-taught by a lead and assistant trainer, thus ensuring you'll receive ample individual support and assistance.

Behavior Counseling

Green Acres Kennel Shop offers behavior counseling for both dogs and cats on both a local and long distance basis. We see local clients at our facility, Green Acres Kennel Shop, in Bangor, Maine, and work with long-distance clients via telephone and email.

Often people find themselves with pets that are exhibiting problem behaviors that a standard training class is unable to address. Behaviors such as separation anxiety, pet-to-pet aggression, pet-to-people aggression, marking, scratching, inappropriate urination/defecation and even obsessive-compulsive behaviors are just a few examples of some of the more common problems that fall into this category. But there is hope!! Green Acres Pet Behavior Counselors, Don Hanson and Kate Dutra will work with you and your pet to resolve behavioral concerns that fall outside of the realm of basic training.
