Green Acres is a Bangor owned business, and the purchases you make here go directly back into the local economy. It is our practice to purchase as many of our supplies from local sources as well. We hope also you choose to buy locally.

We're located on Union Street, a mile and a quarter past the Airport Mall and across the street from Sprague's Nursery. We're open 7AM to 6PM Monday through Friday and 8AM to 5PM Saturday and Sunday.

No matter if you just need to pick up a bag of dog biscuits, are searching for help finding the best food for your pet, or are looking for a crate for a new puppy, the Green Acres’ staff is trained and ready to help. When you buy an item at Green Acres, you are also purchasing product support. We will help you with feeding guidelines on a new food, finding the right brush for your pet’s coat, and using a crate to effectively house train your puppy. If you have questions after the sale, we are only a phone call away. After you have made your purchases, we will happily carry those heavy bags of food and litter out to your vehicle. Our employees are here because of their love of animals and to assist you with your pet’s needs.

Pet food is a complicated business and unfortunately the manufacturers do NOT put all of the information on the labels needed to make an educated purchase decision. Green Acres has created and maintains a database on dog and cat food which includes much of the information that is "not readily available." The database focuses on the brands we sell, but we also try to obtain data on many of the brands we choose not to sell. With the aid of this database we can show you why we sell what we do, and exactly how much it costs to feed your pet on a daily basis. We believe that it is not in our best interest to sell you "the special of the month" or the food that has the highest profit margins. We would rather work with you to help you find the food that will be the best for your pet's health and have the least impact on your wallet!

The pet retail channel is filled with foods, treats, toys and other supplies; a few of exceptional quality and many of which are junk. We work hard to pick and choose products that meet our stringent quality standards and yet also offer a good value. Research in periodicals like the Whole Dog Journal, tests of new products on our own pets and conversations with professional colleagues that are as fussy as we are, help us find the best products. Additionally, many of our clients are as selective we are, and they often provide leads on exciting new products.

NutriSource/Pure Vita/Natural Planet Organics – Buy any products in the NutriSource family and you will get a free product, after buying twelve. NutriSource allows you to move around between formulas and brands, but does limit the free product to being the one of lowest value. Since we keep track of all of this in the store, the reward is immediate.

Natura (California Natural/Evo/Innova) – Natura’s program works the same as NutriSource’s, but you get free product after purchasing ten products. We firmly believe that if you are looking to get a dog, a cat, a puppy or a kitten, the first place you should look is at the Bangor Humane Society, or one of the many other animal shelters or rescue groups in our area. Thousands of wonderful, loving pet's who need new homes can be found at these shelters and rescue organizations.

If your heart is set on a pure breed puppy or kitten, please purchase them from a reputable breeder. Reputable breeders will ONLY sell directly to you; they do not sell their precious pets through retailers.

Green Acres offers a free, Selecting the Perfect Pet program, to help you determine the best pet for your family or life style. We will gladly provide you with our recommended criteria for selecting a reputable breeder.

We Do NOT Sell Products Designed to Hurt Your Pet

We do not sell, recommend or use shock collars, underground fence systems, choke collars or prong collars. The main purpose of these devices is to train a dog by causing pain and or intimidation. Neither pain nor intimidation is necessary to train, nor is it the most effective way to train any animal. Ample evidence exists to show that these devices often cause serious aggression which may lead to euthanasia. As true pet lovers, we will not ethically support these products, the companies that make them, or the businesses that sell them.

We Have a Large Fenced Play Area for Your Pets to Play

Our regular clients, those who are using are boarding, daycare, grooming or training services or those that purchase food and supplies on at least a monthly basis, are welcome to use our fenced training area, during our regular business hours, as long as they follow the posted rules. We do recommend however calling ahead to ensure the field is not in use for classes.
