Newman’s Own Organics Premium Pet Food

The goal of Nell Newman, cofounder and president of Newman’s Own® Organics, was to create a pet food which would contain high quality ingredients.  Her reasoning was that pets which are fed such a food typically live healthier, longer lives.  “With the rise in the number of cat and dog problems directly related to poor nutrition, we want to offer pets the same high quality food we buy for ourselves.” 

All of the ingredients in a Newman’s Own® pet food are certified organic (by Oregon Tilth) and are of human-grade quality, including the Bell & Evans® chicken.  Therefore, the Newman’s Own foods will not contain antibiotics, hormones, chemical ingredients, or artificial preservatives, colors, or additives.

The Bell & Evans® chicken are fed a 100% natural, all vegetable diet.  They live in a stress free environment and are given plenty of fresh air and provided with clean water.

The brown rice that is used in each of Newman’s formulas provides fiber, complex carbohydrates, and essential amino acids.  When cooked, it resembles the intestinal contents of a wild dogs’ or cats’ prey. 

Among other ingredients, each formula contains Ester-C, a non-acidic form of vitamin C that is easily absorbed into the body.  In addition, probiotics are added to the foods to aid in digestion.  These are “friendly bacteria” such as lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacteria.  An intestine that is well populated with such bacteria is at less of a risk for developing populations of harmful bacteria which can cause bowel upset or disease—the good bugs crowd out the bad.  Newman’s Own Organic pet food does not contain wheat (a common allergen), corn, or soy.  Nor does it contain any poultry by-product meal.
